The team at Premier work with a number of charities throughout the year. This typically involves supporting them with both event management and AV production for their own events.

This year we have gone one step further, our Managing Director Ben McCarthy has put himself forward for a London to Paris bike ride.

    Ben said about the ride:

“I wanted to do something that would make a difference to the charities that we support, and a bike ride seemed a pretty obvious choice. I wanted to do something that was a real challenge and not simply a walk in the park etc. Those that know me well appreciate that I have no biking experience and am generally an unfit person and so the 300 mile bike ride is going to be a real challenge”

The ride itself is spread over 4 days:

    Day 1: London > Calais – 95 miles

    Day 2: Calais > Abbeville – 75 miles

    Day 3: Abbeville > Beauvais – 70 miles

    Day 4: Beauvais > Paris – 60 miles

As part of training Ben has had to buy a new bike as his old BMX which he used for his paper round at the age of 14 isn’t going to cover the miles required. Training is well underway with spin sessions at the gym now a regular thing.

The plan is to raise money for a couple of charities, but we are starting with Hope Against Cancer. A Leicester based charity that we have supported for a number of years, they prioritise research for early detection, treatment and prevention of cancer.

Ben said about Hope “We have been providing the AV for the Hope Fashion Show for a number of years now, it’s a great charity to support and the work that they do does make a real difference to people which I think is really important.”

With a £2,000 initial sponsorship target, we are going to need the support of both our customers and suppliers to help us raise the money for the charity.

On sponsorship, Ben said “I have committed to myself that I will do enough training so that I can finish the ride, however much pain I am in on day 4. Your donations, however small will make a massive difference to the charity and help me continue to ride up even the steepest hills.”

You can support Ben on his ride by donating to his Just Giving page which is being updated on a regular basis with training updates: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ben-mccarthy9
