    Space Park Leicester, a pioneering space research, innovation and teaching facility was officially opened by British ESA astronaut Major Tim Peake at a formal ceremony yesterday.

    The £100 million facility has been developed by the University of Leicester with local, national, and international partners. The brand-new facility dedicated to a collaborative community of industry, academics and students working together to drive growth in space and space-enabled sectors.

    Premier Events was asked by the University of Leicester, to support with the launch which was attended by scientists, researchers, industry guests, and schoolchildren.

    The event was split into three sessions, the first session dedicated to the unveiling of the plaque and opening of the site.

    For this part of the event, Premier Events supplied a stage with branded lectern & lectern mics, PA package, 75” screen & stand, and 4 x Sparkulars. The first British European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut to visit the International Space Station (ISS) Major Tim Peake declared Space Park Leicester open in the company of Leicester City Mayor, Sir Peter Soulsby, University of Leicester Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nishan Canagarajah, Science Minister George Freeman MP, plus scientists, researchers, and representatives from the local community.

    The second part of the day was a panel session discussing, what can space science and technology do for us? The session of 5 expert speakers including Major Tim Peake was streamed live to the University of Leicester’s YouTube channel.

    The panel session was held in the Space Parks conference room which was attended by 80 guests including university students and faculty. Premier events again supplied a carpeted stage, audio package, including DPA headsets for the speakers and a catch box for the Q&A, as well as the live streaming solution.

    The final part of the event was a VIP drinks reception which was hosted by Dr Sarah Casewell From the University of Leicester. This part of the event was attended by heads of universities around the country, VIP guests and the media.

    The evening concluded with several speeches and presentations from guest speakers, scientists, and MPs. For the drink’s reception, Premier Events supplied a custom vinyl set surround, 98” screen, audio package plus a carpeted stage with stage wash lighting and star effect break up gobos.

    As part of the event, we also supplied outdoor lighting in the tree line behind the space park using Chauvet COLORado Panel Q40s. These IP rated lights were impressive and enhanced visually the architecture of the surrounding area.

    Ryan, the lead PM from Premier Events on the event said “It was good to support the University and Space Park with this prestigious event.
