Premier were tasked with providing full event production and management for a corporate Christmas party held at the Vox in Birmingham.
Working closely alongside the client and our in-house event management department, we were able to solely provide all aspects of production.
The brief was to ensure 700 guests had a fantastic Christmas party. To do this, in early discussions with the client we began to get an idea of what they wanted the event to look like, we could then start to look at how their ideas could be made into reality. As with previous Christmas parties, the theme has been crucial and how it can bring all guests into the event, engage them, and make it an immersive and fun experience for all.
The client decided that a game show would be a great way to engage the audience. To be in with a chance of taking part, guests submitted selfies to our team in advance. These were then added to our randomizer software and chosen at random on the night to create 2 teams.
For all of this to come together, we expand on the client’s ideas and ensure all requirements are covered. Furthermore, from a technical perspective, a widescreen that brought the stage and theme to life was designed to sit at 1.6m above floor level. This could produce all content in HD along with video stings, branding, and company videos.
Moving forward with the event planning we designed the event space in-house which could visually give the client an idea of what we proposed, along with our thoughts on how they could make the most from the event. The design showed a 20m wide LED video wall fronted by an array of fixtures from Elation & Chauvet. SGM Lighting making up the step units to bring the stage in line with the theme of Family Fortunes.
Premier Events were able to distribute tasks internally to ensure deadlines could be met and ideas could be drafted and questioned. Event management worked closely with our in-house design department to design gameshow style tables and get them custom-manufactured solely for the event. This meant all components could be compiled and proposed to the client from 1 supplier.
For video, the base of the system was the 20m wide x 3m high LED Unilumen 2.6mm pitch video wall. Curved at the back of the stage this 5 Tonne video wall required 6 Novastar video processors running a Barco control scaler and mixer. For control we opted for the E2 with the EC-50 as it gave enough input capability along with scalability. Assisting this in content were graphic players and show laptops.
Alongside the mixture of wash and beam fixtures situated on the stage, accompanying these were Astera AX3’s for table centers, the Elation Sixbar as an uplighter and Elation Davinci’s in the roof for room effect and gobos. Combined this fixture combination ensured lighting could remain a crucial element and we could give our lighting technicians a solid understanding about the event and what the client wanted from the lighting. Control was routed through our new ArtNet > DMX rack which has made shows simpler and much easier to route. The rack gave us the ability to split universe lines to different trusses and the stage.
At the forefront of the audio system were leading products from Yamaha, Sennhesier and L’Acoustics. The audio language was Dante which all our equipment is built to work on thus dramatically reducing installation times. Working on the low end of the system was the L’Acoustics SB18 along with multiple zones of flown L’Acoustics 12XT’s. The backbone of the system was provided by Yamaha, utilising the QL5 along with a 32/16 RIO stage box. This allowed the various VT / audio sources to be controlled on local inputs at FOH and all stage inputs to be networked over our CAT6E loom.
A stand out feature about Premier is the ability to provide such a diverse range of equipment, in doing this we can offer high expectations across all disciplines and make events as cost effective as possible. We deployed a 28ft x 24ft black starlit dancefloor which our hire stock is more than capable of producing.
