The Curve Theatre approached Premier with a precise vision: to project a live performance of their star, Martha Kirby, onto a vast screen, ensuring real-time display without any perceptible delay.

This was crucial for maintaining the integrity of the performance and the audience’s engagement. The requirement was for a video wall capable of being rigged to move in and out of the stage as necessary while being robust enough to support its own weight throughout the event.

Planning and Execution

To realise this vision, our team embarked on a journey of meticulous planning and technical evaluation. The first step involved testing various cameras, including our Blackmagic Ursa’s and Cannons, to determine which would deliver the best visual fidelity on a 6m x 4m LED wall. After thorough testing, it became apparent that the choice between a wireless unit and a fiber kit was instrumental in reducing latency. Our client’s needs were central to our decision-making process as we assisted them in choosing the best option for their requirements.

Integrating the video wall with the Resolume server was a pivotal part of the planning stage. This allowed for seamless content management and ensured that the wall’s visuals remained in sync with the live performance.

The Outcome

Our Senior LED Technician Chris was instrumental in the setup, diligently rigging and managing the video wall, with frequent checks to guarantee flawless performance. As the show commenced, the video wall was flawlessly flown in and out, matching the show’s dynamic pace without a hitch.

The result was a stunning visual experience that brought Nikolai Fosters’ rendition of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Evita” to life.
