As part of a larger event that we managed at the ICC in Birmingham we used Hall 3 as the venue for a 1,200 awards dinner. Premier looked after all aspects of the event from menu choices all the way through to the AV production, décor & entertainment.
During the quotation stage our in house designer created a number of different design options, which we presented to the client. After deciding on the design of the set and stage we then had 3 weeks to turn the design into reality in time for the event itself.
The below case study explains how we made this event happen by area:
Choosing the right mix of entertainment can have a huge impact on its overall success or failure. We booked for the evening our in house DJ as well as a 12-piece function band that we have worked with on a number of previous high profile events. To compliment this we also installed augmented reality photo booths, digital graffiti walls and #printing stations. A dance troop dressed in LED outfits signalled the start of the ‘entertainment’.
To add to the aesthetics of the venue we installed a number of décor items to Hall 3. Illuminated globes with wireless DMX were used at the table centres for the evening. We also supplied all of the chair covers as well as a 46ft x 30ft black starlit dance floor.
On the balcony area we used illuminated LED furniture to create a VIP chill out area. Illuminated letters were also installed spelling the clients name which guests could take photos of / with.
With the number of delegates attending we added additional L-Acoustics KARA boxes to the venues in house system as well as installing 6x SB18 subwoofers for additional low-end re-enforcement. L-Acoustics 12XT’s were used as monitors for the band.
We provided a mixture of wired and wireless microphones for the awards element of the evening as well as for the band and DJ. All technicians used wired comms during the show to ensure its smooth running.
A number of different lighting effects and fixtures were used to compliment the lighting already installed in the ceiling at the ICC. The stage lighting consisted of a mixture of Chauvet Rogue R2’s, Elation Platinum Spot 5R’s, ADJ Event Bars and Clay Paky Mythos fixtures. SGM pixel tubes were also used to create a visual effect on the stage itself.
Around the 2 side screens we also installed a number of Chauvet Q Wash moving heads and Elation SixBar 1000 battens. Around the perimeter of the venue we installed 50x Philips Showline E Strips and Showtec Event Spots, these acted as LED Uplighting.
All lighting was controlled by a Grand MA lighting desk by our lighting designer.
Video content was displayed on 3x 24’ x 13.5’ fast fold screens flown from the venues structure. A total of 4x 20k lumen HD Panasonic Projectors were used for the show with the center screen having two projectors ‘double stacked’ to counter the haze.
All signal was sent via SDI to ensure a full HD output onto all screens, including the 2x 50” LCD comfort monitors.
Video content itself was in the form of a PowerPoint presentation, video playback and live camera feeds which were pre selected using a vision mixer before being sent to the Pulse seamless switcher / scaler.
An auto-cue was also provided for the presenter on the evening.
To add to the look and feel of the stage we designed and then fabricated a step solution to allow award winners to access the stage itself to collect their awards. The highlight of the step unit was the LED tape, which we secured to the each step and was controlled remotely by our lighting designer.
The event itself ran seamlessly and the feedback from the client has been fantastic.
